Navigator 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Napa Valley

Here's a super find! This is a wine from one of our favorite producers, Trevor Sheehan. For this wine he got some help from a friend who's a 100-point Napa Valley winemaker and they went through a very careful selection of only the best lots to create this reserve bottling. The grapes are sourced from prime vineyards in sub-AVA's around Napa Valley including Yountville, St. Helena and Atlas Peak.

It's a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and it aged 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels. The wine shows dense color and a beautiful nose of blue and black fruit, licorice, graphite and subtle toast. On the palate it's rich and balanced with black cherry, cassis, toasty oak and dark chocolate flavors. The mouthfeel is chewy and vibrant suggesting a good agability. It makes a wonderful gift as the Navigator Cab Reserve bottle has a stunning high-design silk screened label, giving it a supremely upscale appearance, but the price tag is comfortably below the $50 mark and it's worth every penny.
