Nickel & Nickel 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Branding Iron Vyd., Oakville

The Far Niente owners founded Nickel & Nickel to produce extraordinary single vineyard Napa Valley Cabs. Each is a very low production wine from a unique sub-appellation in Napa Valley. The winery is located near the Oakville Crossroad and several of their best vineyards are in the Oakville AVA, including Branding Iron. This 8-1/2 acre vineyard is in a prime location across the street from Opus One and down the road from Heitz Martha's Vineyard. It's comprised of well-drained clay loam and the area's warm climate and ideal sun exposure allow for perfect slow ripening of the fruit. This wine from the outstanding 2016 vintage is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 17 months in 48% new French oak barrels.

This shows bright red fruit and floral aromas complemented by a bouquet of clove, anise and cardamom. On the palate it offers a beautiful balance of fresh fruit and spice, the wine is plush and elegant, offering hints of red berries and minerality, along with notes of warm toasted oak that add depth and length to the finish.
