Nickel & Nickel 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, CC Ranch, Rutherford, Napa Valley

This Cab is from the C.C. Ranch in Rutherford, planted along the slope of a knoll west of the Silverado Trail. The vineyard grows classic Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon on well-drained, gravelly loam soil. The vines are well balanced and the canopy is opened up to give good light exposure. Nickel & Nickel produces wine from 15 select acres of this 115-acre vineyard. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon this wine was aged 18 months in French oak, 48% new.

The 2015 received 95 points. No scores yet for this 2016 but many consider the 2016 to be a better vintage. This bold Cab shows  aromas of ripe cherry, plum, black currants and figs along with floral and dried herb notes. On the palate the wine shows lively acidity and rich flavors of berries, cherries and plums along with notes of toast, chocolate and tobacco. Fine tannins give it a backbone for aging and the finsh is long and nuanced. Limited!!
