Founded by the Costa family in 1851, this 17 acre estate lies on a hilltop overlooking the village of Montá, in the heart of the Roero region of Piedmont. Winemaker Alessandro Costa cultivates the primary varieties of the Roero primarily Nebbiolo. All of the vineyards at the Costa estate are located within 1 mile from the newly built facility, an important factor in preserving the health of the grapes during harvest. They have adopted organic methods, using natural fertilizers, and no herbicides.
From 30 year old vineyards situated in Montà at an altitude of 750-1000 feet above sea level. The soils are very sandy and the sites are situated Southwest. Maceration on skins for five days followed by a seven day vinification with the cap submerged. The wine was aged for six months in barriques, and two months in bottle before release.
