Does $75 sound like a high price tag for an Oakville Cabernet? Actually it's probably on the low end of what Cabs from Napa Valley's high rent district go for these days. But wait just a minute because we're going to shake things up a little. This outstanding Oakville Cab comes to us from Trevor Sheehan, who happens to be an awesome winemaker but also someone whose connections give him access to serious Oakville juice. The grapes were sourced from a single vineyard planted in the 1990’s on the east edge of Oakville, east of Screaming Eagle. It's a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. It's aged for 15 months in 60% new French oak barrels.
It's a beautiful example of Oakville’s unique terroir and overdelivers with inky almost opaque purple color and great depth of flavor. Notes of black cherry, blackberry and cassis are seasoned with hints of toasted coconut, dark chocolate and caramel. It has a concentrated core and a full-bodied mouthfeel with supple chewy tannins and a long berry-laden finish. You can enjoy it right now or let it expand in your cellar 3-5 year. But best of all, It's not $75 dollars. In fact it's not even $55.
