About Olarra 1982 Anares, Rioja Reserva

Bodegas Olarra is a top quality winery founded in 1973 in Logroño, within the highly regarded sub-area of Rioja Alta. It is one of a small group of ambitious wineries founded in the 1970's when trade opportunites for Rioja wine were expanding. Olarra is known for the unique beauty of its estate which features Y-shaped ground plan and has 111 hexagonal domes. Because of this architechtural splendor, Bodegas Olarra is commonly refered to as the Cathedral of Rioja. The winery carefully merges cutting edge technologies with the traditional winemaking methods and creates wines with the highest parameters of quality. At their founding they hired away the late, great, Ezequiel Garcia, "El Brujo de Rioja" from CVNE, as their first winemaker. And his legendary touch can be found in this Añares reserva in the great 1982 vintage, known for its richness and ripe tannins. This well-aged beauty is Brilliant ruby colored and medium to full-bodied. Loaded with dark cherry and strawberry notes with lively earth, tobacco and saddle leather tones, this nuanced red shows the smooth complexity of mature Rioja in a top vintage. Fine acidity and sturdy, ripe tannins buttress the long, multifaceted finish.

Our contact sources these rare vintage wines from private collections in the north of Spain, primarily from a single, large collection that purchased directly from wineries upon release, and stored them in a pristine underground cellar since then.*

*Most of the labels and capsules show some amount of wear and deterioration that comes with age in a natural cellar and some have been wrapped in saran wrap to protect the label. Also it's important to use caution removing the corks as some may crumble. A two prong, Ah-So type cork remover may be your best bet and we strongly recommend that you decant the wine off of the sediment.
