Panther Creek was founded by acclaimed winemaker Ken Wright and focuses on single vineyard designated wines. But not just any vineyards, this winery has maintained relationships with the finest vineyards in the Willamette Valley.
Current Winemaker Tony Rynders has spent the past 20 vintages developing his winemaking skills in some of the best wineries in Oregon, Washington, California, Italy and Australia. He is recognized as one of America’s most highly acclaimed winemakers. Tony was the head winemaker at Domaine Serene Winery/Rockblock Cellars for 10 years so his knowledge and experience with Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is unsurpassed.
This wine from the excellent 2018 vintage is sourced from the Da Ponte Vineyard which was first planted in 1975. It has some of the oldest vines in the Valley. Just 15 acres, the red-clay loam and volcanic Jory soils allow good drainage so the vine roots go deep into the earth for water an nourishment. Only 148 cases were produced and it aged in 50% new French oak barrels.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 93 points saying “A strong coffee and cream streak rides atop this lush and flavorful wine. Aged in 50% new French oak, those toasty highlights are perfectly integrated into the rich black cherry fruit. There’s a hint of iron as well, and taken all in all this captures the core characteristics of the AVA perfectly.”
