Panther Creek was founded by acclaimed winemaker Ken Wright and focuses on single vineyard designated wines. But not just any vineyards, this winery has maintained relationships with the finest vineyards in the Willamette Valley.
Current Winemaker Tony Rynders has spent the past 20 vintages developing his winemaking skills in some of the best wineries in Oregon, Washington, California, Italy and Australia. He is recognized as one of America’s most highly acclaimed winemakers. Tony was the head winemaker at Domaine Serene Winery/Rockblock Cellars for 10 years so his knowledge and experience with Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is unsurpassed.
This wine from the excellent 2018 vintage is sourced from the Lazy River Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Planted in 2000 it’s 33 acres on primarily volcanic Jory soil which provides excellent drainage for roots to go deep. Less than 200 cases were produced and it aged in 50% new French oak for 18 months.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded this an Editors’ Choice and scored it 94 points saying “Smooth and rich flavors of toasted coconut, milk chocolate, butter and caramel envelope the pretty raspberry fruit. The acid/tannin balance is spot on, and the aging in 50% new French oak is seamlessly integrated and brings on nuances of coffee grounds and toasted hazelnuts. As with all of the winery’s 2018s, this is a delicious and almost irresistible wine. Drink this and all of the Panther Creek 2018s over the next five years for maximum pleasure.”
