The Single Vineyard “La Vinyeta Vella” is a field blend planted on a hillside 1100 feet above sea level, of pronounced slopes with the characteristic llicorella slate soil, with vine stocks of Garnacha and Carinyena between 65 to 90 years old. These concentrated old vine grapes receive a long cool maceration for good extraction. The wine is aged for 15 months in new fine-grained, medium-toasted French Allier oak barrels. Extremely limited production.
The Wine Advocate scored this 93 points saying "The single vineyard 2010 La Vinyeta is pure Cariñena from a coster, a slope vineyard planted in the village of La Vilella Alta in 1945 at 450 meters altitude. The grapes fermented in two open top 500-liter French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts followed by malolactic and 20 months aging in two new French oak barriques. The nose has loads of smoky aromas, notes of graphite, peat and even a touch of kerosene over a core of ripe berries and some violets, very Cariñena. The palate has the power and rusticity of the variety on those slate soils, with fine tannins and very good balance. Very Cariñena and very Priorat. Just 977 bottles and 12 magnums were filled in June 2013."
