From the first, Pickberry has been Ravenswood’s most prestigious bottling. Located on the north side of Sonoma Mountain, Pickberry Vineyard is 30 acres first planted in 1892.
Ravenswood’s first Pickberry wine was called "one of the most important wines of the vintage" by Wilfred Wong and received a 90+ rating from Robert M. Parker, Jr. From the first, it has been Ravenswood’s most prestigious bottling, which says something. Located on the north side of Sonoma Mountain, Pickberry Vineyard is 30 acres first planted in 1892. It has a trellising system that spreads out the crop and keeps the clusters small. The grapes, grown in shallow rugged soil, have enormous intensity, complexity, and concentration. This 2013 is a blend of 39% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec and 8% Petit Verdot fermented with native yeasts in small open-top fermenters. The wine was aged 20 months in French oak barrels, 40% new. 2013 was one of the best vintages of all time. This wine shows aromas of black cherry, plum, currants, cigar box and new leather. A wonderfully balanced wine with bold intensity. Flavors of black currants, black cherry, cedar, cured tobacco and dark chocolate pervade the palate. a lingering finish. The acids lift he flavors and hold the tannins in check while the flavors linger on the finish. Limited!!
