The Recchia family have been growers and wine makers in the Veneto since 1906. They provide grapes to some of the best producers including Tomassi and Allegrini. Fratelli Recchia also produces their own Amarone Classico wine from the local grape varieties in their estate vineyards. The grapes for this Amarone Classico come from a mature vineyard with vines averaging 15 years of age. The vineyard slope goes from 450 to 1200 feet with good south/southeast exposure. 55% Corvina, 25% Corvinone and 20% Rondinella, the grapes go through a drying process "appassimento” that lasts about 3 months or until 40% of the weight is lost, then they are crushed. A 5-10 day cold maceration is followed by fermentation lasing up to 2 weeks. Then the wine ages 4 months in stainless steel and 24 months in large oak barrels.
This rich wine shows aromas ripe plums, baking spice, tobacco and anise. The palate is full-bodied but nicely balanced with intense fruit flavors a velvety texture and a long dry finish.
