About Rioja Gran Reserva 2015 Marques de Riscal
Named European Winery of The Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine in 2013, Marques de Riscal is one of Rioja's legendary estates. In 1858 Herederos de Marqués de Riscal became the first winery in the Rioja to produce wines following the Bordeaux method of slow fermentation and careful blending.
To make this Gran Reserva wine, Marqués de Riscal uses grapes from old vines over 80 years of age, from their own estate vineyards and from local growers. The wine destined for making the Gran Reserva is set aside after the final coupages and goes into French oak barrels where it spends 28 months, followed by another three years in bottle before its release. 80% Tempranillo and 20% Graciano and Mazuelo.
This wine was awarded Gold Medals at Mundus Vini in 2020 and 2021,
James Suckling scored this 94 points saying "A rich and rather decadent Rioja with ripe berry, tobacco and bark aromas that follow through to a full body with layered, creamy tannins and a long, fresh finish with lemon peel and apple to the dark fruit. Touches of coconut and toffee. Drink or hold.
