Risk 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Napa Valley

Risk Cabernet is the flagship wine of the Cabana Winery. Started by Robert Smerling who founded the Renwood Winery where he spent 19 years making award winning Zinfandel, Barbera and Viognier, with accolades from Wine Spectator, Robert Parker and the New York Times. He was now ready to brew some Napa Cab. But not just any Napa Cab, he was going for the cream of the crop; Oakville. This wine is 89% Oakville Cabernet, 10% Oakville Merlot and 1% Oakvile Petite Verdot. The wine spent 20 months in new French Oak barrels, medium toast, racked 3 times. The nose is full of dark chocolate, hints of cedar, pepper and black cherry. It's a big wine, loaded with dark berry fruit with well integrated oak. It offers supple tannins and a rich mouthfeel with a long finish. He knew he was taking a risk but the pay-off was there. It's been awarded 6 Gold Medals, including three Double Golds and it was named Best of Class, 98 Points, Double Gold in the California State Fair Wine Competition!
