About Silk & Spice Red Blend 2020 Portugal
The 2016 was #15 Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Best Buys of 2018 and a perpetual Best Buy Silk & Spice is the Portuguese red for every day that really delivers. The grapes selected for Silk & Spice come from the regions Dão, Bairrada, and Lisboa, and are vinified separately.
After total destemming and gentle crushing, the grapes were fermented at a controlled temperature with short maceration to retain freshness. The wine then aged for 6 months in American oak barrels. Innumerable tastings and analyses were carried out to determine the final blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Alicante Bouschet and 30% Baga, creating a wine with delightfully forward fruit and very soft tannins.
This 2020 was again named a Best Buy by Wine Enthusiast Magazine who scored it 90 points saying "This blend from across regions in Portugal is smooth and ripe, rich in black fruits and made to drink young. It is a fine wine, with black fruit and juiciness. Celebrating the Portuguese explorers of the Indies in the Renaissance, the wine is ready to drink."
