The bright, tangy wines of Chablis are world famous for their quality and style. The white, chalky soil gives them their tart flintiness, and the Chardonnay grape gives them fruit and substance. This crisp, compelling Chablis is from a renowned producer. Simonnet-Febvre's wines have long been respected and enjoyed. Now that Masion Louis Latour has acquired the estate a new influx of investment and expertise brings this classic 100% Chardonnay wine to a new level of quality and character.
This wine from the Premier Cru Vaillon vineyard. This vineyard is situated on the left bank of the Serein river, and has an ideal south-westerly aspect. The soils of the left bank are less clay-like than those of the right bank. This wine is one of the most highly-rated left-bank Chablis. The vines average 35 years of age and the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel including 12 months on the lees.
The Wine Advocate scored this 91 points saying "An expressive bouquet of honeysuckle, fresh peach and ripe citrus oil introduces the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons, a medium to full-bodied, expansive wine with a satiny attack, a succulent core of fruit and a saline finish. This is a very typical and nicely executed rendition of Vaillons."
James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "Some attractive stony and chalky aromas, as well as white peaches and hints of yellow grapefruit. The palate has a great sense of detail and composure. Very tight with good density and weight and a tense finish. Try from 2021."
