The Summer Solstice is the moment the earth reaches the warmest extreme of it's journey around the sun. In biodynamic grape growing it's the time to activate the soil, bringing it to life so the natural balance will invigorate and promote healthy fruit and a successful harvest. That's exactly what happened in 2016 in the Momtazi vineyard where the Pinot Noir grapes for this wine were selected. The vineyard lies in the McMinville AVA of the Willamette Valley.
The highest elevation blocks of the vineyard were sourced for this wine, where the combination of full direct sunlight and the cooling effects of altitude brought perfectly balanced and vibrant Pinot Noir. Fermentation is all natural and spontaneous on 100% native yeasts. The wine aged 13 months in 8% New French Oak, 92% Neutral French Oak barrels.
This superb Pinot from the outstanding 2016 vintage shows boisterous aromatics of ripe strawberries fallen to the red-wood forest floor tantalize the nose with memories of summers long past. Flavors of pomegranate and bing cherry weave a velvety mouth-feel of smooth mid-palette tannins and bright acidity into a long sunset finish. Indulge in this rich red now or age it to perfection over the next 3-5 years. Limited!
