About Taub Family 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vyd., Oakville, Napa Valley
From Marc Taub, Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Person of the Year for 2021! Taub Family Vineyards began in 2013 when Marc acquired Napa Valley producer Heritance. The winery represents some of the best sites in Napa Valley. Each wine embodies a pure expression of its respective AVA and vineyard microsite and is crafted for elegance and extraordinary balance.
This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Beckstoffer's vineyard in Oakville. Grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and hand-sorted. A cold soak for three to five days is followed by approximately 14 days of fermentation with three daily pump-overs. Fermented to dry on skins with an additional 7 to 14 days extended maceration. Drained, pressed, and transferred to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging. The wine is aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak. Limited production of only 260 cases.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 95 points saying "Tones of compost, sage and baking spice accent this full-bodied wine, with a surprising freshness beneath its core of decadently soft red fruit. Showing plenty of structure and graceful length, it finishes on a crisp currant note."
Wine Spectator scored this 93 points saying "This late release is a beauty, with the fruit-forward profile of the vintage, showing lush plum, raspberry and cassis flavors, without the slight midpalate gap shown by many wines of the vintage. There's also a nicely filled-in finish that delivers a second rush of anise, bramble and sweet tobacco notes. Drink now through 2030."
