About Tenuta di Biserno 2016 Il Pino di Bisreno, Toscana IGT

Marchese Lodovico Antinori discovered the property of Tenuta di Biserno near Bibbona, in the Alta Maremma area of Tuscany, in 1994, while looking for additional land to expand his Tenuta dell’Ornellaia vineyard. Given its proximity to Bolgheri, it is not surprising he was at first struck by the similarity in terroir. What he found in Bibbona, however, had so much potential, he was inspired to develop a quite different plan. With more hills and stones than nearby Bolgheri, this land appeared to be ideally suited to produce a new and different wine. In 2001 Lodovico and his brother, Piero, established Tenuta di Biserno as an elite wine estate.

Il Pino di Biserno reflects the unique terroir of Bibbona, a blend of grapes which are classic in the Alta Maremma, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This, through rigorous selection of young vine grapes reveals the potential character, finesse and elegance, of the property. The wine is aged for 12 months in new and second-use French oak barrique and 10% in stainless steel.

The Wine Advocate scored this 94 points saying "Thick and richly endowed, the 2016 Il Pino di Biserno is a full-bodied Tuscan blend with dark fruit, spice, tobacco, tar and licorice, all delivered with seamless execution and care. This wine offers thick density followed by deep layers of sweet spice and succulent black fruit."

James Suckling scored this 94 points saying "Complex aromas of dark fruit and smoky meat with hints of black licorice. Subtle yet rich. Full bodied, very velvety and round yet fine grained in the tannins. Extremely long and juicy. Better after 2021."

Antonio Galloni scored this 94+ saying "The 2016 Il Pino di Biserno is powerful, if rather somber. Dark fruit, scorched earth, graphite, leather, tobacco and torrefaction add to an impression of depth and gravitas. I especially admire the way it pulses with energy and tension."
