About Terra D'Oro 2018 Zinfandel, Amador County

Amador County in the Sierra Foothills is home to some of the earliest Zinfandel plantings in California. Gold rush pioneers planted it in the mid-1800's and Zin has been grown there ever since. And conditions are ideal with a beautiful warm climate and rocky soils with good drainage. Terra D'Oro head trains and spur prunes all of it's Zinfandel vines to keep yields low.

The grapes are hand picked 92% from estate vineyards and lots go into the crusher separately. During fermentation the tanks are drained and refilled three times to extract maximum color and flavor. The wine is then aged 18 months in French and American oak barrels, 24% new. The final blend is 85% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, 3% Teroldego and 1% Barbera

Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded this an Editors' Choice and scored it 91 points saying "Pure, jammy, palate-pleasing flavors of raspberries, black cherries and strawberries light up this full-bodied wine. A nip of tannin helps firm the texture as the fruitiness floods the mouth and extends into the finish."
