Named Our 2021 French Wine of the Year! Situated on a plateau on the steep hills which dominate in Fronsac, this beautiful family property nearly recently disappeared. Renovated in 1987 by Josette Dupuch and her son, Vincent, the team set about working towards restoring the vineyard to prosperity. Today the vineyard stands at 17 acres and benefits from a wonderful diversity of terroir. The plateau is clay and chalk (similar to the Pomerol mix) and the steep hillside vines stand in red clay which adds elegance to the finesse and fruit."Les Terres Rouges" refers to this red clay soil and the vines here average a mature 30 years of age. This wine is 100% Merlot and aged partially in oak barrels for 12 months.
Vincent Dupuch is not well known as a consultant on the Right Bank of Bordeaux but only because he doesn't advertise that he has consulted at the likes of Chateau Petrus, Chateau L'Angelus and Chateau Lafleur among others. In this way, he has mastered the secrets of the Right Bank and applies them to his own vineyard with passion, perseverance and quality.
With a Silver Medal in the Vinalies Internationales Competition and a Bronze in the Concours de Bordeaux, International Wine Report scored this wine from the outstanding 2016 vintage, 91 points saying "The 2016 Château Tour du Moulin opens with aromas of blackberries and cherries are laced with dried spices, cigar box and hints of licorice. On the palate this is medium-bodied and structured with velvety tannins. This shows excellent overall balance with a gorgeous texture through the lingering finish. Excellent today, but should also evolve beautifully over the next few years."
Wine Enthusiast Magazine score this 90 points saying "This wine comes from an appellation that should be better known. A 100% Merlot wine, it is as rich as would be expected, but still retains plenty of elegance, juicy black-plum fruits and a dense structure that needs to soften. Drink from 2021."
This is stunning value and very limited, don't miss it!!
