About Trimbach 2016 Riesling, 390th Anniversary, Alsace

Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been promoting and producing fine wines of Alsace. They have been celebrated over the centuries with countless accolades, setting a true gold standard.  Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, where today three generations work closely together. Maison Trimbach’s vineyards are all situated around Ribeauville (Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittlewihr). They benefit from the unique Alsatian microclimate, thanks to the Vosges Mountains protection from heavy rains. The vineyards were planted on the Ribeauville’s fault line that fractured 50 million years ago between the Vosges Mountain range and the Black Forest offering a mosaic of terroirs including the complex calcareous limestone and bio-degraded seashell fossils called “Muschelkalk”.

This wine was created in honor of Trimbach’s talented winegrowers who have been partners with Trimbach for decades and with whom they share the same passion. The wine comes from an extraordinary mosaic of Alsace terroirs. From north to south, these grand terroirs lieu-dits sparkled in 2016. A mild winter was followed by abundant rain in the spring, which replenished water reserves. A hot and sunny summer with peak temperatures at the end of August allowed for full maturity and led to sunny conditions during harvest.

Grapes are harvested at maturity then crushed and delicately pressed in a pneumatic press. Vinified in a dry style in stainless steel vats and old casks. No malolactic fermentation, or long ageing on lees to preserve freshness, liveliness and fruity aromas. Bottled in the spring 2017. The wine was released four years after the harvest and already expresses superb development with ageing potential between 10-12 years.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 95 points saying "Notes of petrol and pear are focused and intense on the nose. The palate is bright and lemony, with a silky smoothness. A long, puckery finish leaves a tingly sensation, as well as delicious notes of dill, fennel frond and eucalyptus. This wine is a bit of a slow burner and could easily keep aging, but there’s plenty here to enjoy and discover now."

Vinous scored this 94 points saying "Rich aromas of soft citrus fruits, honey and minerals. Dense, juicy and tactile on the palate, featuring expressive flavors of apricot, beeswax and spices. This fresh, deep, suave Riesling showcases a lovely fruit intensity."

Wine Spectator scored this 93 points saying "A graceful white that exhibits fragrant petrol, pine and white flowers on the nose, while offering ripe peach and Asian pear fruit flavors finely-meshed with mouthwatering acidity and an underscoring tang of salinity. Harmonious and creamy, with a lasting, spiced finish that echoes the aromatic profile. Drink now through 2036."
