Rocca Sveva is a line of handcrafted, boutique, estate wines from Soave’s most innovative and technologically advanced producer, Cantina di Soave. Each wine is a classic expression of the area’s famous traditional offering. Made only from hillside fruit, these wines are crafted from the finest quality grapes, grown by the best growers in the choicest vineyards. The vineyards for this Valpolicella Ripasso are located near the villages of Val di Mezzane, Illasi, and Cazzano di Tramigna. The Vines are planted in Calcareous soils at elevations of 500-600 feet. All the grapes are hand-picked, a blend of 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 5% Molinara.
What makes Ripasso so unique is that the Valpolicella wine is “re-fermented” for 11 to 14 days with the freshly-fermented grapes that have made the Amarone. This “re-passing” gives the wine increased structure and an appealing roundness. 30% of the wine is matured in oak barriques and 70% in large oak botti for 12-18 months. The wine is further aged for six months in the bottle.
This wine was awarded a Platinum medal, 97 points in the Decanter World Wine Awards. They said "An openness to the nose with florality, creaminess as well as brooding blackcurrant fruit. Plump and ripe on the palate with refreshing acidity. Blueberry and cherry notes."
