Now owned by the Antinori family, the La Braccesca farm, which extends over a total surface area of 1,037 acres consists of two distinct and separate blocks: the historic nucleus, located in Montepulciano, includes 254 acres of vineyards in the appellation's finest sub-zones for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The first Vino Nobile di Montepulciano produced by La Braccesca was the 1990 vintage. In this 2014 10% Merlot is blended in with the local clone of Sangiovese known as Prugnolo Gentile. The wine was aged 12 months in oak barrels and then 12 months in the bottle. The Wine Spectator scored this 90 points saying "Broad and rich, with plum, blackberry, loam and spice aromas and flavors. Has complexity and mineral elements, with a lingering, licorice- and leather-tinged finish. Drink now through 2020." and Antonio Galloni scored it 92 points saying "The 2014 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a finely-knit, gorgeous wine,
with all of its elements in the right place. Aromatically persistent and
nuanced in the style of the year, the 2014 is impeccable in its
balance. The winemaking team certainly squeezed every ounce of potential
out of the vintage."
