About Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano 2016 La Braccesca

Owned by the Antinori family, the La Braccesca farm, which extends over a total surface area of  1,037 acres consists of two distinct and separate blocks: the historic nucleus, located in Montepulciano, includes 254 acres of vineyards in the appellation's finest sub-zones for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.  The first Vino Nobile di Montepulciano produced by La Braccesca was the 1990 vintage. In this 2014 10% Merlot is blended in with the local clone of Sangiovese known as Prugnolo Gentile.  The wine was aged 12 months in oak barrels and then 12 months in the bottle.

The Wine Advocate scored this 91 points saying "The 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows large intensity with elegantly etched aromas of dark fruit, plum, spice and bitter chocolate. The wine steps forward with mid- to full-weight intensity and medium length. However, you get plenty of dark fruit and spice in between."

James Suckling scored this 91 points saying "Fresh and bright Vino Nobile with black-cherry, orange-peel and citrus aromas and flavors. Medium body. Fine tannins."

Vinous scored this 90 points saying "La Braccesca's 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is soft, fruity and accessible, all of which make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Sweet floral and spice notes add nuance to red cherry/plum fruit in a lithe, gracious Vino Nobile with tons of immediacy and sheer appeal. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, aged in cask."
