About Baron De Chirel 2010 Rioja Reserva, Marques De Riscal

Featured in the Wine Enthusiast Magazine 2017 Collectors' Edition Barón de Chirel wine first appeared in 1986 as the result of experimental production using a selection of grapes from very old vines, between 80 and 110 years' old, with a very low yield and high quality. From the results of these trials would appear what we could say was the precursor of the so-called “new era” of Rioja wines. This wine is produced on a very limited scale and only in the best vintage years, in which the character of the vineyard, the soil and the variety are expressed as part of a single, harmonious whole. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and the maceration period does not exceed 12 days. The wine is aged for 20 months in Bordeaux style barrels made of French oak and finally, the wine spends a minimum time of a year rounding off in the bottle before being released for sale. This 2010 is the most current vintage of Baron De Chirel Wine Enthusiast Magazine designated it an Editors' Choice and scored it 94 points saying "This deep, smoky, minerally wonder is full to the brim with ripe blackberry, tobacco and fine-oak aromas. In the mouth, this Tempranillo-led blend is rich and jammy but not out of shape. Blackberry, prune and toasty flavors finish lusty, with a touch of heat and burn that should settle in due time. Drink now through 2023."
