About Beaux Freres 2015 Pinot Noir, Beaux Freres Vyd., Ribbon Ridge

Perhaps the most collectible Pinot Noir in America, Beaux Freres has set a standard that few can match. While on vacation in 1986, Michael Etzel came upon an 88-acre farm for sale located on Ribbon Ridge in the Northern Willamette Valley. After some deliberation, Michael purchased the farm with his brother-in-law, world famous wine critic, Robert Parker, Jr. Michael began his focused pursuit by planting only Pinot Noir and slowly transforming the old farm into his jewel. While planting his own vineyard, Michael worked four harvests at Ponzi Winery. In 1990, Michael harvested his first crop and sold the grapes, except enough to make one barrel, to winemakers Ken Wright and Dick Ponzi. In 1991, a renovation of one of the barns led to the creation of Beaux Frères Winery and the beginning of a cult classic. This year they celebrated the release of their 25th vintage. 2015 was the second outstanding vintage in a row in Oregon's Willamette Valley. This estate Pinot has received high praise including 95 points from the Wine Spectator who said "Offers impressive presence and polish, with a multilayered, complex core wrapped in rich and expressive blueberry and cherry flavors. Drink now through 2025." and 95 points from Vinous who said "Deep lurid red. Intensely perfumed aromas of raspberry liqueur, vanilla, Indian spices and potpourri, along with a hint of smoky minerals that builds in the background. Densely packed and alluringly sweet, showing impressive depth and a bright mineral core to the sappy red berry, spicecake and floral pastille flavors. Gains power with air while maintaining energy and focus. Smooth tannins build slowly and harmonize with the vibrant fruit on an impressively persistent, floral-driven finish." and 96 points from James Suckling who said "Lovely cranberry fruit here along with blood oranges, lavender, some earth, cherry blossom, redcurrants, fresh herbs and spices. Medium-bodied but with vibrant acidity and fruit that just takes off. Such minerality yet plenty of depth and fine tannins. So elegant and pinpointed. Drink now or hold."
