About Bodegas Garzon 2015 Tannat, Single Vyd., Uruguay
Uruguay is renowned worldwide for the Tannat grape, which is the most emblematic grape variety in the country due to its unique velvety flavor and its innumerable international awards. Tannat makes full-bodied reds in the Madiran region of Southwest France. In Uruguay it's producing a bold, expressive wine with good complexity. Bodegas Garzon grows Tannat in their hillside vineyards in the unique, mineral-rich soil of the region. This Single Vineyard wine is sourced the vineyard that is cooler than all of the other blocks on the estate. Steep slopes and thin soils with excellent drainage have allowed the roots to grow deep and bringing extra complexity to these grapes. Consulting Enologist Alberto Antonini extracts the rich flavors, retaining the the bold fruit and exceptional balance. The wine then ages on the lees in French oak barrels for 12 months. Decanted awarded this a Platinum Medal, 95 points in the Decanter World Wine Awards. They said "Intense notes of dark fruits, chocolate and sweet spices. Well built although tannins are quite firm. Very tight but there's striking concentration and a persistent finish. A wine you could happily put away for a while in the cellar."
