About Chateau Macquin 2015 Saint Georges-Saint Emilion
Chateau Macquin is an estate with a unique history. Its founder Albert Macquin, was an agricultural scientist in the late 1800's. He discovered the most effective method of grafting root stock onto vines and thus Saint-milion can be eternally grateful to him for saving the vineyards from ruin by phylloxera. Today the 75 acre vineyard has mature vines averaging 40 years of age and planted 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyards have excellent hillside exposure and the vines are densely planted to to discourage vigor. Though the Chateau is ancient the winery is modern and up to date. The grapes are carefully sorted in the cellars to insure only the best fruit goes into the tanks. Fermentation is in temperature controlled tanks and maceration is extended. Finally it ages in French oak barrels, one third new for up to 12 months. In the extraordinary 2015 vintage this Petit Chateau has produced a wine that delivers quality well beyond its modest price tag. Ripe and abundant with black currant, cherry and anise flavors. The wine has ample structure with a depth that suggests age ability of 8-10 years. Limited!!
