About Domaine Christian Moreau 2019 Chablis, Les Clos, Grand Cru
Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils owns a total of 7.5 acres of this most famous of the Grand Crus of Chablis, more than any other producer in the region. Their primary parcel sits on the high portion of the hillside with direct southeast exposure. With the steep grade, drainage of the Kimmeridgien soils is quickly leading to low yields of the densely planted vines.
The Chardonnay grapes are certified organic and the vines average over 50 years of age. A sizable 40% of the final blend is aged in an oak cask, although only a small percentage is new barrels. The oak contact is unobtrusive and is a testament to the sheer power of this Grand Cru.
Wine Enthusiast awarded this a Cellar Selection and scored it 99 points saying "A champion of the celebrated Les Clos, this powerful, soul-reaching wine highlights the finesse of grand cru Chablis even in the hottest of vintages. Indisputably massive, unctuous even, it pulsates with yellow-cherry and peach flavors yet remains anchored in steel and breathtaking tension.
