About Domaine Rochette 2017 Morgon, Les Micouds
A family of winemakers for six generations. The estate originally began with Joel’s Great-Great Grandfather Joseph Jambon, in the split village of Villié-Morgon. Joel's father Marius Rochette, took the reins from Joseph in the late 1950s and immediately expanded the estate’s acreage. Joel Rochette in 1979 created his own estate, purchasing a small amount of land and the rest of his land under vine he rented from his family’s estate.
In the vineyards traditional labor is performed on the vines to encourage the roots of the vines to grow deeper towards the granite sub-layers. Herbicides are used sparingly and only biodegradable products are applied. Pesticides used are only ones approved for organic farming. 100% Manual harvest and loaded in small bins where they are sorted in the vineyard.
This Cru Morgon is from a tiny 1.28 acre parcel with vines averaging 90 years of age! 100% Gamay, the freshly harvested fruit is immediately brought back to cellar where it is pumped into cement tanks that are topped off with Carbon-dioxide. Carbonic maceration/fermentation usually takes about 8 or 9 days. After the malo, the wine ages for 6 to 10 months in foudres.
This is a rich wine, full-bodied with aromas of currant and raspberry, smooth tannins that have allowed it to mature well. On Sale!!
