About Gary Farrell 2015 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley Selection

Beginning in the late 1970s, Gary Farrell was working with seminal Russian River Valley vintners such as Davis Bynum, Joe Rochioli, Tom Dehlinger and Robert Stemmler. He made his first wine under the Gary Farrell label in 1982 and built the winery into one of the most acclaimed producers of small-lot Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in the Russian River Valley. This latest release is true to form. The grapes for this Russian River Selection 2015 are sourced from some of the region's top vineyards, including Hallberg, Rochioli, Toboni and Floodgate, taking advantage of varied climates and unique site characteristics. The fruit was all destemmed (leaving just a little whole cluster) and hand sorted. It fermented in small open-top temperature controlled tanks. The wine aged 10 months in 40% new French oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine gave this a 94 point score saying "Crisp acidity buoys sharp red fruit in this delectable wine—a blend of multiple sites across the appellation. Medium build, it shows youthful tannins and oak that supports without intrusion, allowing the crunch of cranberry, strawberry and pomegranate to speak forcefully."
