    About Gnarly Head 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, 1924 Double Black, Lodi

    The year was 1924. It was the heart of the Prohibition Era and wine’s darkest hour when it was outlawed and deemed unconstitutional. It was also the year the family behing Gnarly Head first planted vineyards in California and farmed grapes that were sold to friends and neighbors. Some of these grapes might have been used to make wine (ya think?). 1924 Double Black Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark, dense wine that pays homage to those first vineyard plantings in 1924 and the underground grape dealings during Prohibition’s black market days. Fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from vineyards throughout Lodi, California. Lodi's climate is ideal for growing concentrated, full-flavored grapes –well-draining sandy soil, warm summer afternoons and cooling nighttime breezes. This Limited Edition Cab is crafted in the throwback style preferred by Prohibition Era speakeasies, 1924 Cabernet Sauvignon upholds the Gnarly Head maxim: bold and unapologetically rebellious. Aged up to nine months in a combination of French and American oak, it shows rich aromas of black cherry, violet, black peppercorn and smoky charred notes, setting the stage for layered, concentrated flavors of blackberry jam, black currant and spicy clove. Inky in the glass, this Cab has smooth, structured tannins and a generous finish. Just Designated "Great Value" in the Ultimate Wine Competition. They scored it 90 points saying "Pouring a densely, dark ruby, this wine has a fragrance of smoked plum, wild berry preserves, espresso beans, and dark chocolate. The palate is massive and filled with decadent black fruits and a blast of baking spices."
