Amazing Find!! More than a decade ago, David and Betsy Lawer fell in love with and purchased one of the most unique vineyards in Calistoga. The special characteristics of this Knight’s Valley vineyard inspired them to create one-of-a-kind, limited production wines that can be shared with total confidence, albeit in very limited quantity. Betsy’s Vineyard has a rich, fertile and one-of-a-kind terroir. Combined with its special mountain valley climate, Betsy’s Vineyard produces fruit with a highly prized flavor and special character not found in other vineyards. Sustainably farmed, thoughtfully managed and meticulously maintained, the grapes are always hand-picked at harvest.
For this beautifully aged 2014, the grapes are 100% Syrah from Betsy's Vineyard. The wine aged for 22 months in 15% new French oak barrels. Only 226 cases were produced. This wine has received an array of accolades including 98 points Double Gold in the California State Fair Wine Competition, Gold Medal, Best of Class in the North of the Gate Wine Competition, Gold Medal in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and 94 points from the Beverage Testing Institute who said "Dark deep purple color. Minty aromas of Chinese 5 spiced plum, menthol, dried goji berries, and marinated red pepper with a dry-yet-fruity medium-full body and a huge, very long acai, scotch oatmeal cookie, thyme, and sandalwood finish with well-integrated, chewy tannins. A rich and complex Syrah that is sure to delight."
With the perfect bottle aging this wine has received at the winery it's at a gorgeous peak of drinking pleasure. As we mentioned production was tiny and so there's very little to go around so please act fast, you won't want to miss this!
