We scored another one! Manzanita Creek was started by two brothers who worked in construction. They decided they wanted to make wine and took a book out of the library. Well, they obviously are very good students because within two years they had a wine selected to the San Francisco Chronicle Top 100 and they continue to turn out award winning and high scoring wines every vintage. Their focus is always small batch wines from outstanding single vineyard plots.
This 2013 Zinfandel comes from the celebrated Harris Kratka Vineyard in the Alexander Valley. Kent Rosenblum made this vineyard famous with his exceptional bottlings from this site. Well, Jack Salerno, a few years ago had lunch with Kent and with Marshall Harris, the vineyard manager for the Harris Kratka. They tasted Jack's version and all agreed his was better than Kent's. Now you get to decide. The vineyard was planted in 2000 and has ideal microclimate and exposure for ripe, rich Zinfandel. Jack's approach is a very straight-forward, natural one if you will, letting the expression of the terroir and the fruit lead the way. The wine has been aging gently in his cellars and is at a peak of supple, velvety richness.*
It even has a Just Wine Points score of 99. They said "This is what zin is all about! Deep nose of classic zin aromas – black raspberry, cherry, anise, plum, pepper spice and dried black fig, with whiffs of vanilla and toasty oak. The palate does not disappoint. This is a mouth-filling, full-bodied zin with lots of spicy character and a wonderful long, lingering finish."
We have a special price in place to make it just that much more compelling, but as always with Jack's Zin's, quantities are limited so don't wait!
*As with most mature reds that are unfiltered this is throwing a light sediment so decanting is recommended.
