About Vina Robles 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Mountain Road Reserve, Paso Robles

The fruit for the Mountain Road Reserve grows on Adelaida Springs Ranch, at an elevation of 1,700 feet and only 12 miles from the Pacific Coast. Situated in the rugged coastal mountains west of Paso Robles, this prime vineyard site features rocky calcareous soils and southwestern exposures that lend themselves to producing stunning wines. It is here that the grapes for our award-winning Suendero are also grown.

This special selection focuses on very small lots of limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon, with a bit of Petit Verdot in the blend to enhance the structure of the finished wine. To achieve a balanced style with a rich character and refined mouthfeel, the wine was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels before bottling unfined and unfiltered.

Wine Enthusiast gave this wine 94 points saying Ripe, inviting and juicy aromas of blackberry and milk chocolate draw the nose immediately into this bottling. Those rich qualities are quickly greeted with very sandy tannins on the palate, which give a firm structure to cassis and espresso bean flavors that will evolve over many years. Drink 2024-2038

James Suckling scored this wine 93 points saying A deep, modern and concentrated cabernet sauvignon showing lots of blackberries, graphite, tar, pine cones and cocoa powder. Rich and full-bodied with very juicy black fruit and dark cherries. Tannic, but well integrated, followed by a long finish.

Vinous scored this wine 92 points saying Saturated violet. Ripe dark berries, vanilla, baking spices, pipe tobacco and woodsmoke on the deeply perfumed nose. Broad and seamless in texture, offering sweet, smoke-tinged blackberry, cherry-vanilla and spicecake flavors that firm up slowly with air. Finishes sappy, gently chewy and quite long, with repeating dark fruit character, well-judged tannins and a lingering floral nuance.
