About Walt 2015 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast
Walt is owned by Kathryn Hall whose Napa Valley Cab's are legendary. She launched Walt to produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that would match her outstanding Cabs. The fruit is sourced primarily from the estate vineyard, Bob’s Ranch, located in both the Russian River and Sonoma Coast AVA and 15% is sourced from the famous Sangiacomo Vineyard. The combined characteristics of these appellations, including cool morning fog and light sandy cotati and goldridge soils, give depth and uniqueness to the resulting blend. The wine aged 10 months in 35% new Francois Freres, French oak barrels. Wine Spectator scored this 92 points saying "A charming mouthful of rich, layered Chardonnay, with fig, honeydew and apricot notes amid flavors of green tree fruits and citrus. Ends long, smoky and detailed. Drink now through 2022."and Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 94 points saying "From the winery’s Bob’s Ranch vineyard primarily, this is a beautiful white wine, and an inaugural release, that is floral and voluptuously creamy in texture. Despite its fulsome nature, it retains balance via a thread of persistently bright acidity amidst rich tones of candied pear, peach, anise and vanilla crème brûlée. It has length for days."
