Aglianico is a native Italian varietal that is widely diffused in Campania and in Basilicata. It is of extremely ancient origin and some experts argue that it was cultivated in the early period of Roman history and was introduced to Italy by the Greeks at the time of the foundation of Cumae (the modern Cuma) or soon afterward. Terredora Estate is owned by the well known Walter Mastroberardino and Paolo Mastroberardino is the winemaker. They consider themselves guardians of this dynamic native varietal, producing significant quantities of the varietal. This wine was femented in stainless steel tanks and the aged in 50% stainless steel tanks and 50% French oak barriques for 6 months. James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "Aglianico with plenty of dark tea, stone, bark and dark berry character. Medium to full body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. The real deal. Drink or hold.”
