About Alexana 2021 Pinot Noir, Terroir Series, Willamette Valley
Alexana Winery was established in 2005 by Dr. Madaiah Revana, proprietor of the fabulously successful Revanna Estate Winery in Napa Valley. Dr. Revana met Lynn Penner-Ash, and he enlisted Lynn’s expertise to begin a search for both the ideal piece of land and an experienced winemaker to produce Pinot Noirs that could rival those from Burgundy. His search ended with an 80-acre estate and hired Lynn as his first winemaker.
For this wine, individual barrels are selected from their small-production ‘Single Vineyard’ Pinot Noir program with the intention of seamlessly bringing together 4 distinct ‘Terroirs’ to create a unique bottling of ‘Willamette Valley’ Pinot Noir. Each vineyard block is dry farmed.
The grapes are individually berry sorted and fermented separately in small batches with native yeasts before resting in French oak barrels for 10 months. The vineyards sourced are the Revana Vineyard - Dundee Hills AVA, Fennwood Vineyard - Yamhill Carlton AVA, Crawford Beck Vineyard - Eola Amity AVA and Zena Crown Vineyard - Eola Amity AVA.
