About Amarone Classico 2012 Costasera, Masi

Masi is one of the historic wineries in the Veneto going back over 200 years. Family owned and run by the sixth generation of the Boscaini family. The sloping vineyards where the grapes are grown for this Amarone Classico Costasera face the sunset. With a longer day, vines that face Lake Garda bask in reflected light, receiving more sunlight, soft breezes and produce the best quality grapes. The Wine Spectator scored this 2012 91 points saying "Light, grippy tannins frame this medium- to full-bodied red, which leans toward the traditional style, with a firm structure and notes of cured tobacco and forest floor. Well-knit and silky on the palate, offering ripe crushed cherry and tarry smoke notes. Drink now through 2027." and The Wine Advocate scored scored it 92 points and said "The Masi 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera is a plump and rich wine that portrays the opulent characteristics of this hot vintage. Dark blackberry is followed by sweet tobacco, baking spice, tar or resin. This beautiful Amarone glides smoothly over the palate imparting dense extraction and dark fruit flavors along the way. The wine has the natural constitution to hold strong for the next decade."
