About Angelique de Monbousquet 2018 Saint Emilion Grand Cru
From Chateau Monbousquet, the Cru Classe Chateau in Saint Emilion with a history going back many centuries and a modern era starting with the purchase of the Chateau by Gerard Perse in 1993, this is their second label, named for Gerard's daughter. Produced from the same terroir as the first wine, and vinified in the same careful manner Agelique de Monbousqet is an exceptional value.
The blend is 60% Merlot 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon this wine from the outstanding 2018 vintage is aged 18 months in French oak barrels and bottled unfiltered.
James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "Aromas of ripe berry and dark chocolate with some coffee bean, following through to a full body with round, creamy tannins. Stone and walnut undertones. Slightly woody finish. Give it two or three years to soften. Try after 2023."
Vinous scored this 89-91 points saying "The 2018 Angélique de Monbousquet is a dark, unctuous second wine from Gerard Perse's Monbousquet property. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice and cloves add to the wine's personality. A wine of serious concentration and power, the 2018 Angélique shows a bit more tannin today than it typically does."
