The history of Artner winery goes back to the year 1650. Their ancestors recognized the potential of the region for viticulture. From the formerly mixed farm, the Artner family has focused on producing wines with authenticity and character since the 1980s. Their philosophy is that top wines can only be produced in the wine cellar with careful and loving vineyard work all year round. Because the quality of the wine is actually decided in the vineyard. They work as naturally as possible, green the areas between the rows of vines, plant trees where necessary to bring more insects into the vineyards. And Artner is now organically certified!
The Carnuntum wine-growing region, where this vineyard is located, stretches eastward from Vienna to Austria’s border with Slovakia. The vineyards extend south of the Danube across three hilly areas: the Leitha Range, the Arbesthaler Hills and the Hainburg Mountains. Named after the Roman military installation and the administrative city that grew around it, Carnuntum offers ideal conditions for viticulture with its heavy loam and loess soils, as well as some sandy, gravelly vineyards. It is home to the BEST red wines in all of Austria, and when you experience the high quality of this wine... you will see exactly why!
Falstaff rated this spicy, peppery and fruit driven red 91 points and Wine Enthusiast raved about this wine saying 'A touch of tar adds weight to the black-cherry and plum notes on the nose. The palate turns the tar notes into smoky vanilla that frames the ripe and juicy but fresh red and black cherry. This is bouncy, juicy, joyful, fresh and harmonious with a really refreshing finish.'
