About Baron de Saint-Onge 2013 Bordeaux Superieur
From a chateau on the Right Bank first planted in the 1700’s on limestone soils with a clay sub soil with vines that are over 35 years old. The terroir can in some ways be compared to that which you could find in the vineyards of St. Emilion. Current vineyard management and farming techniques include organic farming methods. 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is aged in 55% new, French, oak barrels for between 12 and 18 months.
This wine is inky purple color with sweet cassis, smoldering black tea, spice and licorice. Mocha and earth notes are already taking shape around the core of plum and blackberry fruit. It is medium-bodied and concentrated, with silky tannins and a long finish.
