A juicy textured win with aromas of raspberries, dried rose petals and tomato leaf. The palate continues to evolve with flavors of cocoa and eucalyptus, finishing with fresh, tangy tannins.
Bella is a family owned winery focusing on producing small lots of red Zinfandel from the best growing regions in Sonoma. Fruit for the 2012 Hills and Benches Zinfandel was picked between September 7th and October 5th. The unique terroir in the Dry Creek Valley is ideal for Zinfandel and this wine was created by artfully blending hillside and benchland fruit from two vineyards in the AVA. Bella's estate vineyard, Lily Hill is perched above the north end of the valley and provides dark, concentrated grapes, the result of the rugged and stressed hillside vines. The benchland portion comes from Jack Florences property. The grapes were hand-sorted and destemmed before going through a 13-day fermentation in a submerged-cap tank, with pumpovers twice daily. Aging was done over 15 months in French and American oak, 20% new. It's a juicy, textured wine with aromas of raspberries, dried rose petals and tomato leaf. The palate continues to evolve with flavors of cocoa and eucalyptus, finishing with fresh, tangy tannins.
