About Bergstrom 2020 Pinot Noir, La Spirale Vyd., Willamette Valley
La Spirale Vineyard was planted 2005 in the Ribbon Ridge AVA with an elevation of 400-450 ft. La Spirale means the vortex; a symbol of life, creation, and the natural formative forces that guide the hands in the Bergstrom agricultural and winemaking pursuits at Bergström Wines. It is also the name of their newest estate vineyard on the Ribbon Ridge AVA, just a stone’s throw from our Le Pré du Col Vineyard and within eyesight of the winery on the Chehalem Mountains AVA. This complex and beautifully positioned Southwest facing 22-acre rolling slope includes more than 14 different marine sedimentary soil expressions.
Josh Bergström's Notes
An elegant and bright ruby red robe. An effusively floral aromatic bouquet is explosively enticing like a still life of potpourri, bundles of fresh cut flowers, savory herbs, a platter of grilled meat topped with cherries, and a basket of freshly foraged mushroom. Pinot Noir at its finest.
The cherry fruit carries through from the aromatics and is accompanied by dark raspberry and blackberry fruits. Lush, restrained, and intensely terroir-focused all at the same time. I love where this wine is heading. Drink Now – 2025+.
Wine Advocate 95 Points
The 2020 Pinot Noir La Spirale has a medium ruby-purple color and aromas of forest floor and mossy bark, allspice, orange peel and leather with a core of cranberry fruit. The medium-bodied palate features concentrated, earthy fruit, abundant, chalky tannins and refreshing acidity, finishing long and spicy.
