About Bodegas Muga 2015 Prado Enea, Rioja Gran Reserva

Bodegas Muga is one of the oldest and most traditional producers in Rioja. Prado Enea is their flagship Gran Reserva, only produced in the best vintages. This 2015 is a blend of Tempranillo, Grenache Mazuelo (Carignan) and Graciano. The Prado Enea crop is always the last to be brought into the winery and is selected from plots located in the area of Villalba de Rioja, on the south-facing slope of the Montes Obarenes, a recognized high-quality terroir.

The grapes ferment in oak vats with no addition of yeast or temperature control. The maceration period is for 16 days. This is followed by a minimum 36 months in French and American oak casks. At the end of the cask ageing the wine is lightly fined with egg whites before bottling and is then stored in our cellars for at least another 36 months, in order to complete the ageing process.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded this a Cellar Selection And scored it 98 points saying "This dark ruby wine offers a bouquet of ripe summer cherry and baking spices. Notes of clove and nutmeg transition to the palate alongside flavors of blackberry, cassis, chocolate covered espresso bean, eucalyptus and violet. Luxurious tannins amble towards a lengthy finish. Drink through 2045."

James Suckling scored this 97 points saying " It’s so aromatic, with plum, peach, cherry and cedar character. Salted olives, too. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, fresh finish. Elegance with power here. Give it three or four years to open, but already impressive" Extremely Limited!
