About Bodegas Muga 2019 Rioja Crianza, El Anden de la Estacion

Over the years as Bodegas Muga has gained worldwide recognition for its outstanding wines it holds on to the spirit of a family-run company. They carefully control every step of the viticultural and vinification process from the vineyards to making their own barrels and fermenting and aging the wine entirely in oak. Muga is one of only six estates in the world that owns its own cooperage and they import the oak directly from the United States and France. Bodegas Muga is one of the oldest and most traditional producers in Rioja.

Muga El Andén de la Estación Crianza is a new project launched in 2020 by the Muga family.  The name pays homage to the train station that was responsible for shipping wine from Rioja to Bordeaux during the phylloxera blight in Bordeaux at the end of the 19th century. It was was born out of the family's desire to produce a traditional style classically gastronomic Rioja Crianza, with a profile showcasing the Muga signature complemented by a youthful and fresh profile. The blend is 70% Tempranillo and 30% Garnacha aged for 14 months in neutral own-coopered barriques of French and Central European oak.

The Wine Advocate scored this 92 points saying "It's a quaffable red with lots of Garnacha character (it might represent up to 30% of the blend, by far the highest in Garnacha from the portfolio). It's floral, juicy and expressive, very open and approachable. This is delicious and still quite complex.” ”It's a quaffable red with lots of Garnacha character (it might represent up to 30% of the blend, by far the highest in Garnacha from the portfolio).
