Brunello di Montalcino was Italy's first wine to be accorded D.O.C.G. status, a
testament to its status, quality and consistency. Castello Banfi
Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy's most celebrated and in the
outstanding 2013 vintage they've produced an exceptional wine. Yields
were kept low and after meticulous grape selection vinification is in
temperature-controlled hybrid stainless steel & wood tanks, with
skin contact for 10-12 days. The wine ages for 2 years in various sizes
oak barrels, 350-liter barriques, and 60- and 120 hl barrels; the wine
is subsequently aged in bottle for an additional 8-12 months before
release. James Suckling scored this 95 points saying "Ripe cherry and walnut with fresh herb undertones and spice. Full body, extremely fine tannins and a silky, textured finish. Very
classic and balanced. Beautifully crafted. Drink or hold." and this was awarded 98 points, a Platinum Award in the 2018 Critics Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition. They said "Castello Banfi has long been a leader in quality in
this special section of Tuscany. Its influence has been felt throughout
the district and it's because of wines like this. The 2013 Brunello
exhibits exceptional structure, with uncommon depth and beautifully
framed aromas of black cherry, tea leaf and spice. A massive Brunello
with firm acidity, it will continue to exhibit its greatness over the
next 20 years or more."
