About Berghold 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Lodi
The history of the Berghold family is deep rooted in wine production, as the name dates back to the 1600’s in Austria where it has been traced back to the meaning of “vineyard worker”. This ancestral fact may explain the current Berghold family’s passionate pursuit to produce only the finest grapes and estate wines. The Berghold Family has been growing grapes in Lodi since 1986. Today, the 85 acres of estate vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Viognier, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Zinfandel. The family has been selling grapes to a number of fine wineries in Napa and Sonoma counties for years, so you have probably enjoyed some of the fruits of their labor without even knowing it!
Lodi has emerged as possibly the best value wine region in all of California. While finding its glory with Zinfandel, the Cabernet Sauvignon wines that are produced in this region can mimic some of the finest wines from other Sonoma and Napa regions at a significantly lower price, and this 2013 Cabernet is an excellent example of that! And since it hails from arguably the Vintage of the Century in CA, you know the quality here is going to be superb.
Winemaker Notes:
This 2013 Lodi 100% Cabernet is aged for 18 months in American oak. Beautiful aromas of cedar, eucalyptus and hints of sage and herbs. Deep heavy plum flavors with dark cherry and dark fruit accents displayed in a balanced tannin structure with a velvety smooth mouth finish. A beautiful wine to be enjoyed today that pairs well with most culinary dishes, so get creative!
