About BV Georges de Latour Reserve 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

A legendary wine, the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet has been a standard bearer for Napa Valley Cabernets for over 60 years, going back to the legendary Andr Tchelistcheff who produced the first bottling in 1936 and every subsequent bottling until he died in 1994. Now Beaulieu Vineyards has built an all-new modern winery just to produce Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet. Robert Parker said "Despite being owned by a huge international corporation, BV appears to be returning to the glorious form it exhibited in the fifties, sixties and early seventies."

For this wine from the superb 2015 vintage  grapes are hand selected from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon vines on the western bench of the Rutherford AVA in the iconic BV Ranches No. 1 and No. 2, originally planted by Georges de Latour in the early 1900s. The wine is fermented in a combination of 55% new French oak barrels which provides early integration of fruit and oak character into the blend and enhances the dense, rich texture. The balance of the must was fermented in stainless steel and upright wood fermenters which preserves the freshness of the fruit. Following judicious extended skin contact and in-barrel malolactic fermentation, the wine was pressed and returned to barrels for aging. A small amount of Petit Verdot and Merlot was blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon to further enhance the wine’s aroma and flavor profile. The final blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec aged 22 months in French oak, 90% new.

The Wine Advocate scored this 96+ saying "Blended of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec aged 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour is very deep purple-black in color and reveals bags of crushed blackberries, black cherries and warm cassis notes with mocha, Sichuan pepper and hoisin plus unsmoked cigars and cedar chest hints. Full-bodied and absolutely laden with layers of black fruits and spices, it has a firm, grainy frame and seamless freshness, finishing very long."
