About Campo Al Mare 2020 Bolgheri DOC
The Bolgheri DOC, on the western edge of Tuscany bordering the Tirrhenian sea, came to the world’s attention in the 1990s for its quality. The area’s exceptional climate is moderated by sea breezes, and the vineyards’ clay and sand soils are ideal for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. In 1999, the Folonari family began to acquire 100 acres of land in Bolgheri on the Tuscan Coast and created the Campo al Mare estate.
This 2020 Super Tuscan is a blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine is matured 12 months in one-year-old French barriques and at least 3 months in bottle before release.
James Suckling scored this 94 points saying "A fragrant nose of dark berries, dried herbs, wafer, cedar and baking spices. Full body with fine tannins. Fleshy, with plenty of dark fruit on the mid-palate and a flavorful finish. Structured red. Drink from 2024 and onwards."
